"..to promote the communication and understanding between British and Chinese communities."

 Who are we?

The Chinese Culture & Research Centre at the University of Wolverhampton has now been established for several years. It is a joint venture between the University and Tsai Lau-Chi Charity & Culture Foundations with the purpose to promote communication and understanding between British and Chinese communities.
In that time the Centre has worked not only to bring about an exchange of teachers and students between mainland China, Taiwan and the UK, but also towards promoting a cultural exchange of ideas and a greater awareness of Chinese culture, both modern and traditional.
At the same time, we have also been responsible for introducing elements of British culture into China, for example, last year organising the research and production of a series of twelve books focusing on British design, from architecture to corporate identity, with that series due to be published in the next few months.

The Telford Chinese School was set up in 1994, three years before the Centre itself. The School emphasis is on promoting the cross cultural communication amongst people of different cultural backgrounds through language lessons and various arts based activities.

What do we do?

The Centre organizes formal and informal meetings for exchanging ideas.

For example, we have held some formal workshops on the topics of Chinese art, medicine, and Feng-shui etc.

We have three groups meeting regularly in an informal and relaxed way to:

 - Discover the Eastern experience of having a long healthy life.
 - Explore Eastern traditions in thought / culture / art.
 - Read books about modern China and Chinese cinema.

We hope in the future to publish the content of the meetings on our web site so that those who can not join the meetings personally can join us through the internet.

We also..
  • Provide teaching services to various colleges / schools / companies in Chinese Language / brush painting / music / Tai-chi.
Offer certificates of achievement in Mandarin Chinese

  • Provide teacher training in the teaching of Chinese.

  • Edit and update learning material for Mandarin Chinese.

  • Run courses on Sundays (term time) at the Telford Campus of Wolverhampton University.
